Note. Permission is not granted to transmit, modify, make available, or host this work elsewhere (or the data contained therein, in any form). By downloading these files, you agree to this policy and also to comply with other relevant policies (e.g., APA). The database is a living document. As it is refined and suggestions for more appropriate codes are provided, updates will be released on this page. We welcome suggested improvements. If you notice an error or would like to suggest a more appropriate code for a particular entry, please provide (a) the rowID, and (b) your suggested improvement(s) to: database@frankbosco.com.

You may download the database on which the Bosco et al. (in press) findings are based. We provide this original database so that others can replicate our findings. Also, as the database is refined and expanded upon, we will compare summaries from this original file to later files in an attempt to estimate the stability of estimates derived from our database. In addition, you may download the most recent version of the database. The database can be used for locating effect sizes (e.g., for meta-analysis) by way of taxonomic classification or by letter string match. In addition, the database can be used as input for running a variety of other analyses. If you use our database, please cite using the information above.

The most recent data from this effort are included in the metaBUS project database which, as of February 5, 2015, contains 505,600 correlations from a wider array of journals through 2013. The metaBUS database will have a public release in the near future. If you wish to conduct a study using the complete (metaBUS) database, please contact the metaBUS team to discuss possible collaboration: team@metabus.org.

Database Files

This database contains each correlation (with variables) reported in articles of JAP and PPsych from 1980-2010 that contain original data in correlation tables (either matrix form or rectangular form). The database contains approximately 25,000 variables and 150,000 correlations. The database variables are described on the first worksheet of the workbook.

Why does the number of effect sizes change across versions? (1) We have been adding effect sizes that were not reported in standard correlation tables, (2) some tables were of such poor PDF quality that they could not be extracted -- these were added manually after the original version, (3) there were some missing articles in the original analysis - this is to be expected with a database of this size, (4) some articles originally deemed relevant were later deemed irrelevant (i.e., did not contain original data; correlations were not zero-order correlations), (5) some articles originally deemed irrelevant were later deemed relevant, (6) some values were excluded from query results due to out-of-range values (e.g., several correlation matrices included correlation values without decimal points), and (7) some duplicate entries were discovered. As described in Bosco et al. (in press), the database contents are not double-coded. Thus, we welcome input from the community to better the database. We hope this input will take the form of error notifications. As of Feb 5, 2015, our team has received [zero] specific article error notifications, [zero] of which have been repaired. We stand ready to reproduce the tables provided in Bosco et al. (in press) for the latest version at request, a process which is now automated.
